10/19 in Yankee History
2009: The Angels let it be known that there will be no sweep of the ALCS, as they beat the Yankees in 11 innings at Anaheim. The player making the announcement is the ‘defensive’ half of the
AL West champs’ catching platoon, Jeff Mathis, who doubles in Howie Kendrick off Alfredo Aceves with two down in the 11th for a 5-4 win. Derek Jeter leads off the game with a home run, and A-Rod, Johnny Damon, and Jorge Posada go long as well. Posada’s shot ties the game at 4-4 in the eighth, as the veteran backstop appears in his 101st postseason game.
