2006: In interleague play, David Wright wins the first Subway Series game of the year between the two New York City teams when he hits a two-out RBI single off Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mets a 7 – 6 victory over the Yankees.

2002: Roger Clemens is dominant in a 3-0 blanking of the Twins at the Stadium.  Not only does the Rocket equal Bert Blyleven on the all-time win list at 282, it is also his 99th career start with 10 strike outs or more, as he whiffs 13 while allowing five hits over eight.  Alfonso Soriano scores from first on a single in the 1st, and Robin Ventura closes the scoring with a two-run blast in the 6th. Matt Kinney is the hard-luck loser, and Mariano Rivera for the save.

2001: As the Yankees defeat the Mariners 2-1, both Ichiro Suzuki’s and Marty Cordova’s hit streaks end. Ichiro’s 23-game skein was the fifth longest hit streak recorded by a ‘true’ rookie.

1998: The Yankees defeat the Orioles‚ 9-5‚ in a game marked by a brawl which results in 5 ejections. Players involved will be suspended for a total of 18 games. The melee begins when Baltimore reliever Armando Benitez hits Tino Martinez in the back with a pitch following an 8th-inning home run by Bernie Williams.

1960: The Yankees send infielder Andy Carey to the A’s for slugger Bob Cerv. Cerv had been with the Yanks for 5 years before going to KC where he banged 38 HRs in 1958 and was chosen as the AL left fielder in the All Star game over Ted Williams. Cerv will be claimed in the expansion draft in 1960 and the Yanks will again reacquire him.

1957: At Yankee Stadium‚ New York knock out Bob Lemon and top Cleveland 6-3. Mickey Mantle hits a homer in the 6th inning rally‚ his 6th off the future Hall of Famer.

1929: One of the darkest days in the history of Yankee Stadium.

In a game with the Red Sox, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig hit back-to-back homers in the 3rd off Jack Russell, but in the 5th, a cloudburst sends a standing-room-only crowd rushing for the exits. A stampede in the right field bleachers leaves 2 dead and 62 injured. Jake Ruppert vows never again to sell more tickets than seats. There are 2 outs in the 5th when the contest is stopped at 3-0.
